Semiao stymies Cobourg, Markham wins 4-1Cobourg Community Centre Mon, Feb 01, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Markham Royals relied on the sparkling performance of Marcus Semiao in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Cobourg Cougars. Markham was sparked by Laine McKay, who had one goal. McKay scored 2:50 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Markham. Joel Knight picked up the assist. The Royals forced Cobourg goalie Stefano Durante to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Markham also had goals scored by Brett Markham, Aaron Spivak, and Rylee St. Onge, who each put in one. In addition, Markham received assists from Lucas Condotta and Joseph Teofilo, who contributed one each. The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Markham to score on any of its three power plays. Cobourg did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cougars put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Cobourg's offense rang up 36 shots on the Royals' net. The Cougars were led by Brennan Roy, who scored the team's only goal. Roy scored on the power play 14:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Cobourg earned a power play opportunity when Semiao was put in the box for roughing after whistle. Liam Grande assisted on the tally. Semiao recorded 35 saves for Markham. The Royals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Durante rejected 35 shots on goal for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
