Kingston stifles Whitby's comeback, gains 6-4 victory

The Kingston Voyageurs, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Whitby Fury and clinched a 6-4 victory.

Kingston led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Voyageurs' Anthony Rinaldi scored at 7:55 in the second period to put Kingston up 4-0.

The Voyageurs got the win thanks to a great game by Rinaldi, who had two goals and one assist.

Kingston's penalty kill excelled, as the Voyageurs gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Kingston stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Voyageurs kept the Fury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Mannella made 28 saves on 34 shots. Kingston bested its season scoring average. The Voyageurs average 3.9 goals per game. Kingston was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 52 penalty minutes.

Kingston also got points from Zachary Emelifeonwu, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kingston also had goals scored by Nick Schantz, Jacob Hanlon, and Colin Tonge, who scored one goal each. More assists for Kingston came via Danny Bosio, Reed Kekewich, Jakob Brahaney, Cole Beckstead, and Brandon Nadeau, who contributed one each and Josh Hardiman and Ian Harris, who each chipped in two.

Whitby forced the Voyageurs goalie David Richer to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Fury found themselves short handed often, totaling 38 penalty minutes and allowing two power plays.

Whitby was helped by Ryan Taylor, who had two goals. Taylor scored the first of his two goals at 12:02 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Kingston. Nik Coric provided the assist. Taylor's next tally made the score 5-4 Kingston with 39 seconds left in the third period. Ryan Porter assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Whitby included Kennedy Duguid and Scott Kirton, who each put in one. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jacob Durham and Zack Fisher, who contributed one each.

David Richer made 29 saves for Kingston on 33 shots. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ian McKinnon was ejected from the game.
