Brown's big game bests Newmarket in 5-2 Wellington win

Luc Brown was all over the ice for the Wellington Dukes, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Wellington's 5-2 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Brown got on the board by slotting home a goal 7:23 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wellington. Ben Sokay picked up the assist. Brown dished an assist on Sokay's goal that made the score 1-0 Wellington at 3:57 into the second period. He added another helper on Sokay's goal that made the score 5-2 Wellington at 19:19 into the third period.

The Dukes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Newmarket power plays. Wellington's offense rang up 35 shots on Newmarket's net.

Wellington also got points from Sokay, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Wellington included Nicolas Mucci and Jacob Panetta, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wellington came via Justin Bean, Chase St Aubin, and Dylan Mascarin, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes forced the Dukes goalie Olivier Lafreniere to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Newmarket was helped by Andrew Breda, who tallied one goal. Breda scored 16:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellington. Nicholas Favaro provided the assist. Ryan Young also scored for Newmarket. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Christian Dedonato, Jonathan Colley, and Todd Winder, who contributed one each.

Lafreniere rejected 31 shots on goal for Wellington. The Dukes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Dalton Ewing made 30 saves for the Hurricanes on 33 shots. Newmarket incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Hurricanes, Steve Mariani was ejected from the game.
