MacDonald nets hat trick, leads Cobourg to 5-2 win over Lindsay

Patrick MacDonald netted a hat trick to lead the Cobourg Cougars over the Lindsay Muskies, 5-2.

MacDonald got on the scoresheet 6:36 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:28 into the third and at 19:15 into the third.

Cobourg forced Lindsay goalie Sean Green to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Cobourg additionally got points from Rory Milne, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Liam Schweda also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Kallen McFarland, who had two and Josh Hopkin, Matt Carroll, Brennan Roy, and Theo Lewis, who each chipped in one.

The Muskies racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Lindsay surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Muskies' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Cobourg power plays. Lindsay's offense rang up 32 shots on the Cougars' net.

The Muskies were helped by Brock Traill, who racked up one goal. Traill scored on the power play 19:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lindsay had gotten the advantage when Cobourg's Mac Lowry was sent off for ineligible player. James Allen picked up the assist. Lindsay also got points from Allen, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Lindsay came via Jeff Christensen, who had one.

Tyler Lewis rejected 30 shots on goal for the Cougars. Cobourg ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Cougars, Justin Bennett was ejected from the game. Sean Green made 36 saves for the Muskies on 41 shots. Lindsay registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Braeden Kublick and Cedric Ralph were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
