Taylor nets hat trick, leads Whitby to 5-2 win over Wellington

Ryan Taylor lifted the Whitby Fury to a 5-2 victory with a hat trick against the Wellington Dukes.

Taylor's first goal came 3:03 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:10 into the first and at 23 seconds into the third.

Whitby forced Dukes' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Sam Tanguay made 22 stops and Anthony Popovich made seven.

Whitby also got points from Luke Keenan, who also registered one goal and three assists. Scott Kirton also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Austin Ulett, who had one and Rylee McKinnon and Ryan Heeps, who each chipped in two.

Wellington's offense rang up 38 shots on the Fury's net.

The Dukes were helped by Matt Adams, who had one goal. Adams scored on the power play 12:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Whitby. An interference penalty on Ulett had put Wellington on the power play. Jacob Panetta provided the assist. Wellington additionally got points from Ben Sokay, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Wellington also got a goal from Luc Brown as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Carter Allen and Nicolas Mucci, who contributed one each.

Whitby's Daniel Mannella stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Fury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Dukes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
