Huge game by Winder boosts Newmarket over Pickering, 6-3

Todd Winder was all over the ice for the Newmarket Hurricanes, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Newmarket's 6-3 win over the Pickering Panthers.

Winder got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 6:58 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Newmarket. Pickering had gotten the advantage when the Hurricanes' Alex Ierullo was sent off for tripping. Walker Hincenbergs picked up the assist.

Newmarket's penalty kill excelled, as the Hurricanes gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Newmarket surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Hurricanes average 3.0 goals per game. Newmarket got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Newmarket additionally got points from Marco Bozzo, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Mark Rozanov, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Andrew Breda and Nicholas Favaro, who each put in one. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Christian Dedonato, who had three and Nick Kalpousos, Cole Thiessen, and Jonathan Colley, who contributed one each.

The Hurricanes were unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Pickering eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Panthers were led by Doug Carter, who had three goals. More assists for Pickering came via Davis Kuksis, who had two and John Hudgin and Kyler Challis, who each chipped in one.

Dalton Ewing rejected 35 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Pickering took out Mathew Woroniuk after he had made one save and installed Andrei Berezinskiy in goal, where he finished with 20 saves and the loss. The Panthers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Pickering, Austin Veleke was ejected from the game.
