Newmarket survives Aurora comeback, wins 4-3Ray Twinney Rink 1 Thu, Jan 21, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Aurora Tigers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Newmarket Hurricanes held on for a 4-3 victory. A goal by Todd Winder put Newmarket up 4-1 in the second period, but Aurora pulled to within one on Drake Board's tally 19:31 into the third period. The Hurricanes pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes. Newmarket was helped by Jonathan Colley, who racked up one goal. Colley scored 16:21 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. Marty Lawlor assisted on the tally. Newmarket also got points from Ryan Young, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Max Routledge also scored for Newmarket. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Christian Dedonato, Owen Ramsay, Andrew Breda, Aidan Comparelli, Mark Rozanov, and Steve Mariani, who each chipped in one. The Tigers stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Aurora was led by Ryan Shaw, who registered one goal and one assist. Shaw scored on the power play 2:23 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Newmarket. The Tigers had gained a power play chance when Winder was whistled for tripping. Alex Formenton provided the assist. Aurora also got a goal from Daniel Mantenuto as well. More assists for Aurora came via Kyle Locke, Liam Neuman, and Austin Gerhart, who contributed one each. Dalton Ewing made 27 saves for Newmarket on 30 shots. The Hurricanes registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Aurora's Joshua Boyko stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Tigers incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
