Wellington beats Whitby 3-2 after comeback scare

The Whitby Fury tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Wellington Dukes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Wellington made the score 3-1 on a goal by Ben Sokay at 6:22 in the third period, and Whitby got as close as 3-2 when Rylee McKinnon scored 13:23 into the third period.

The Dukes pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for Wellington included Dylan Mascarin and Tyler Burnie, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Sam Tanguay, Justin Bean, Luc Brown, Nicolas Mucci, and Jacob Panetta, who contributed one each.

Whitby also had goals scored by Nik Coric and Kennedy Duguid, who scored one goal each. More assists for Whitby came via Greg Allen, Zack Fisher, Jonathan OHara, and Ryan Taylor, who each chipped in one.

Tanguay recorded 24 saves for Wellington. The Dukes registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Daniel Mannella made 25 saves for the Fury on 28 shots. Whitby incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
