North York pulls away in second, rolls over Burlington, 7-2

The Burlington Cougars allowed the North York Rangers to net three goals during the second period and fell, 7-2.

North York got the win thanks to a great game by Chris Sekelyk, who had one goal and three assists. Sekelyk scored 9:09 into the second period to make the score 3-1 North York.

The Rangers forced Burlington goalie Austin Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. North York found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Rangers average 3.6 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. North York could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

North York additionally got points from Michael Morgan, who also had three goals and one assist and Grayden Gottschalk, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for North York included Jeremy Szabo and Fedor Rudakov, who scored one goal each. In addition, North York received assists from Tyler Currie, Ted Hunt, Shawn Tessier, and Nick Campoli, who contributed one each.

The Cougars could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Burlington puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars kept the Rangers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeremie Lintner made 33 saves on 35 shots. Burlington found itself short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

The Cougars were helped by Ben Morris, who registered one goal. Morris scored on the power play 13:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Burlington had taken the advantage when North York's Dean Rayner got sent off for roughing after whistle. Willy Paul assisted on the tally. Burlington also got points from Paul, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Burlington came via Zac Herrmann and Tyler Riter, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jacob DeMaeyer was ejected from the game. Austin Washkurak made 29 saves for the Cougars on 36 shots. Burlington registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
