Wellington rolls over Newmarket, 6-1

The Newmarket Hurricanes had trouble finding ways to stop the Wellington Dukes, which beat Hurricanes, 6-1.

Newmarket was stymied by Wellington's netminder Olivier Lafreniere, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Lafreniere certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.29 entering the contest.

The Hurricanes were unable to stop the Dukes from sending pucks towards the net, and Wellington eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Dukes outdid their season average for goals scored. Wellington averages 3.5 goals per game.

The Dukes were helped by Dylan Mascarin, who had two goals. Mascarin scored the first of his two goals at 8:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellington. Luc Brown picked up the assist. Mascarin's next tally made the score 5-1 Wellington with 8:02 left in the second period. Ben Sokay assisted on the tally. Wellington also got points from Shaw Boomhower, who also registered one goal and one assist, Greg Smith, who also had one goal and one assist, and Matt Adams, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Nicolas Mucci also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Tyler Burnie, who had two and Jacob Panetta and Austin Labelle, who contributed one each.

Newmarket was led by Nick Kalpousos, who scored the team's only goal. Kalpousos scored on the power play 11:00 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wellington. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when Wellington's Chase St Aubin was sent off for interference. Blake Coffey picked up the assist.

The Dukes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wellington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Adams was ejected from the game. Aidan Doak recorded 27 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Newmarket, Christian Cella was ejected from the game.
