Mannella stymies Burlington, Whitby wins 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Daniel Mannella helped the Whitby Fury defeat the Burlington Cougars, 4-1.

Whitby was paced by Zack Fisher, who tallied one goal. Fisher scored 15:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. Scott Kirton assisted on the tally.

The Fury forced Burlington's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 31 shots and forcing 27 saves. Austin Washkurak made 14 stops and Andrew Lee made 13.

Whitby additionally got points from Kirton, who also had one goal and two assists. Whitby also got a goal from Jacob Durham as well. More assists for Whitby came via Jeffrey Gauld, who had two and Alex Boudreau, Nik Coric, Jonathan OHara, and Ryan Porter, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Burlington could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Cougars average 4.3 goals per game.

Daniel Mannella made 25 saves for Whitby on 26 shots. The Fury incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Burlington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
