Georgetown blows out Markham, 5-1

The Georgetown Raiders had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Markham Royals.

Georgetown was led by goalie Billy Day, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. Day certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.24 entering the contest.

The Raiders were paced by Anthony Mota, who registered one goal. Mota scored 2:38 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Georgetown. Zack Dybowski picked up the assist.

Georgetown forced Royals' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 36 shots and forcing 31 saves. Marcus Semiao made 22 stops and Scott Smith made nine. The Raiders' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Markham power plays.

Others who scored for Georgetown included Brendan Jacome, who had two and Arran MacDonald and Matthew Thom, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Georgetown were Jordan Crocker, Bailey Molella, Jack Jacome, and Andrew Court, who each chipped in one.

Markham could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Royals average 3.7 goals per game. Markham's offense rang up 37 shots on Georgetown's net.

The Royals were led by Rylee St. Onge, who scored the team's only goal. St. Onge scored short handed 10:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Georgetown. A spearing call on Aaron Spivak put Markham on the penalty kill. Matthew Dunlop assisted on the tally.

The Raiders incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Royals incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
