Cobourg downs Newmarket, 6-3

The Newmarket Hurricanes fell to the Cobourg Cougars, 6-3.

Cobourg forced Newmarket's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Dalton Ewing made 20 stops and Aidan Doak made 10. The Cougars' goal total was higher than their season average. Cobourg averages 3.5 goals per game.

The Cougars were helped by Theo Lewis, who tallied one goal. Lewis scored 4:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Russell Nowry picked up the assist. Cobourg also got points from Matt Carroll, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Cobourg included Liam Grande, Brenden Locke, Justin Bennett, and Ryan Casselman, who each put in one. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Sam Dunn, who had two and Rory Milne, Patrick MacDonald, Austin Kozluk, Brennan Roy, and Mac Lowry, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes were led by Mark Rozanov, who grabbed two goals. Rozanov scored the first of his two goals at 1:24 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Cobourg. Steve Mariani assisted on the tally. Rozanov's next tally made the score 5-3 Cobourg with 6:22 left in the third period. Ryan Young picked up the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Mitchell Duggan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Christian Dedonato, who had one and Todd Winder, who had two.

Stefano Durante made 17 saves for Cobourg on 20 shots. The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Newmarket incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
