Cobourg beats Pickering 4-2 after comeback scare

The Cobourg Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Pickering Panthers on the way to a 4-2 win.

Cobourg made the score 4-0 on a goal by Mac Lowry at 9:10 in the second period, and Pickering got as close as 4-2 when Davis Kuksis scored 16:15 into the third period.

Brennan Roy had a great game for the Cougars, netting two goals. Roy scored on the power play at 15:40 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cobourg and again while 7:50 into the second to make the score 3-0 Cobourg.

Cobourg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Cougars got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cobourg additionally got points from Liam Grande, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Matt Carroll, who had two and Josh Hopkin, Brenden Locke, and Kallen McFarland, who contributed one each.

Pickering also got a goal from Kevin Ounjian as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Tomas Azzano, who had one and Kyle Gentles, who had two.

Stefano Durante made 26 saves for Cobourg on 28 shots. The Cougars incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Mathew Woroniuk took the loss and made 14 saves before being replaced by Troy Paquette who made eight saves. The Panthers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
