Pickering falls to Stouffville after surprising comebackStouffville Arena Sat, Jan 09, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit rallied from three goals down to secure a 6-4 win over the Pickering Panthers. Stouffville let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Spirit took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Max Novick at 10:11 in the first period. Stouffville went down 4-1 after Pickering's Robert Clark put the puck home at 13:43 in the second period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a goal by Stefan Palatsidis at 9:41 in the third, the Spirit got the game-winner from Nathan Hudgin at 16:33 in the third period. Hudgin was all over the ice for Stouffville, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hudgin scored the first of his two goals at 13 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-2 Pickering. Christopher Brill-Morgan provided the assist. Hudgin's next tally made the score 5-4 Stouffville with 3:27 left in the third period. Brill-Morgan picked up the assist. The Spirit stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stouffville forced Pickering goalie Troy Paquette to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Spirit surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Stouffville has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Stouffville additionally got points from Novick, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stouffville also had goals scored by Spencer Roberts and Chad Burrows, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Ryan DaSilva, who had two and Jack Varga, Zachary Roberts, Josh Argier, Calvin Martin, Kyle Thomas, and Connor Evans, who contributed one each. The Panthers struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. Pickering was helped by Kevin Ounjian, who tallied one goal and one assist. Ounjian scored 18:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Pickering. John Hudgin assisted on the tally. Pickering also got points from Tomas Azzano, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Pickering came via Mackenzie Heber, Doug Carter, Davis Kuksis, and Justin Bennett, who each chipped in one. Aaron Taylor rejected 25 shots on goal for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Paquette recorded 26 saves for the Panthers. Pickering registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
