Locke's big game bests Pickering in 6-3 Aurora win

Behind a great game by Kyle Locke, who had two goals and one assist, the Aurora Tigers defeated the Pickering Panthers, 6-3.

Locke found the back of the net on the power play 10:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 1:35 into the third to make the score 4-2 Aurora.

Pickering was unable to stop Aurora from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tigers eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Aurora's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Tigers average 3.1 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Aurora could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Aurora additionally got points from JD Falconer, who also had one goal and one assist and Austin Gerhart, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Aurora also had goals scored by Darren Iwai and Matthew Tozer, who scored one goal each. More assists for Aurora came via Drake Board, who had two and Spencer Herbst and Liam Ham, who contributed one each.

The Panthers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. Pickering had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

The Panthers were led by Andrew Hughes, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Hughes scored on the power play 19:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Aurora. Pickering earned a power play opportunity when Nolan Dunn was put in the box for head contact. Tiger McDonald picked up the assist. Others who scored for Pickering included Tomas Azzano and John Hudgin, who each put in one. In addition, Pickering received assists from Mackenzie Heber, Kyler Challis, and Chris Sekelyk, who each chipped in one.

The Tigers' Joshua Boyko stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Aurora registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Troy Paquette rejected 26 shots on goal for the Panthers.
