Grande leads Cobourg over Mississauga, 8-1

Behind a great game by Liam Grande, who had one goal and two assists, the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Mississauga Chargers, 8-1.

Grande scored 5:40 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cobourg. Josh Hopkin provided the assist. Grande dished an assist on Brennan Roy's goal that made the score 3-1 Cobourg at 3:38 into the third period. He added another helper on Matt Carroll's goal that made the score 6-1 Cobourg at 11:14 into the third period.

Cobourg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Cougars forced Mississauga goalie Andrew Cipollone to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Cobourg bested its season scoring average. This season, the Cougars average 3.4 goals per contest.

Cobourg additionally got points from Brenden Locke, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Roy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Mac Lowry, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Cobourg included Russell Nowry and Theo Lewis, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Ryan Casselman, who had four and Reade MacInnis, Lucas Berkers, Rory Milne, Paul Spadafora, and Kallen McFarland, who contributed one each.

The Chargers were led by Brandon Yeamans, who scored the team's only goal. Yeamans scored 7:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg.

Tyler Lewis made 17 saves for Cobourg on 18 shots. The Cougars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cipollone recorded 32 saves for Mississauga. The Chargers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mississauga ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jaimen Allison was ejected from the game.
