North York squeaks by Aurora, 5-3

The North York Rangers gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Aurora Tigers.

North York gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ryan Hunt 6:44 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Kyle Clarke had a great game for the Rangers, netting two goals. Clarke's tallies came at 1:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 North York and 18:45 into the third to make the score 5-3 North York.

North York forced Tigers' netminders to work between the pipes, launching 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Alex Fotinos made 19 stops and Joshua Boyko made nine.

North York additionally got points from Joshua Dame, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Keegan Blasby also scored for North York. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Jeremy Szabo, who had two and Tyler Currie and Louis Kereakou, who contributed one each.

Aurora managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Tigers finished below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Aurora's offense rang up 34 shots on the Rangers' net. The Tigers' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Aurora averages 2.5 goals allowed per game.

The Tigers were helped by Ryan Shaw, who racked up one goal. Shaw scored 5:19 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Liam Neuman picked up the assist. Aurora also got points from Neuman, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Aurora also got a goal from Darren Iwai as well. In addition, Aurora received assists from Daniel Mantenuto, who had two and Alex Formenton, Nolan Dunn, and James Thomson, who each chipped in one.

Gianluca Baggetta recorded 31 saves for North York. The Rangers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Aurora registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
