Markham beats Buffalo 6-0 as Semiao gains shutout

Marcus Semiao made 30 saves to complete the shutout and led the Markham Royals to a 6-0 win against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.

Tyson Bruce was all over the ice for Markham, as he tallied two goals in the win. Bruce scored at 16:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Markham and again while on the power play 11:26 into the third to make the score 4-0 Markham.

The Royals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 11 chances. Markham's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Royals average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Markham's offense rang up 40 shots on Buffalo's net. The Royals' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Markham averages 3.8 goals per contest. The Royals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Markham also got points from Aaron Spivak, who also registered one goal and one assist. Hudson Michaelis also scored for Markham. Other players who recorded assists for Markham were Cooper Hyman, Sean Perichak, Trevor Abbot, Nick Thomakos, and Marco Azzano, who contributed one each and Brendan Valko, Brandon Washer, and Rylee St. Onge, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Sabres' offense operated below their season average. Buffalo puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Sabres could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Markham registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Tucker Weppner recorded 34 saves for Buffalo. For the Jr. Sabres, Christian DiFelice was ejected from the game.
