Pickering boosted by Paquette's play in net, beats Whitby 3-1

The Pickering Panthers relied on the sparkling performance of Troy Paquette in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Whitby Fury.

Pickering was led by Justin Bennett, who registered one goal. Bennett scored 11:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pickering.

The Panthers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Pickering finished below its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Panthers forced Whitby goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Others who scored for Pickering included Robert Clark and Tiger McDonald, who scored one goal each. In addition, Pickering received assists from Mackenzie Heber and Kyle Gentles, who contributed one each.

The Fury were led by Nik Coric, who scored the team's only goal. Coric scored 5:16 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Zack Fisher picked up the assist.

Paquette rejected 29 shots on goal for Pickering. The Panthers registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Daniel Mannella made 30 saves for Whitby on 32 shots. The Fury incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
