The Whitby Fury's Nik Coric scored 2:18 into overtime to beat the Newmarket Hurricanes, 4-3 (OT). Whitby overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Fury was down 3-1 after a short handed goal by Newmarket's Marco Bozzo at 14:51 in the second period. Whitby tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Coric at 15:07 in the third period. The Fury got the win on the strength of a great game by Coric, who had two goals and one assist. Whitby additionally got points from Zack Fisher, who also registered one goal and two assists. Luke Keenan also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Jonathan OHara, who had two and Brock Welsh, who had three. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 36 shots on Whitby's net. Newmarket was helped by Steve Mariani, who finished with one goal. Mariani scored on the power play 19:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Reilly Smith was whistled for tripping. Mitchell Duggan picked up the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Adam Smith as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Nick Kalpousos, Alex Ierullo, Andrew Breda, and Mark Rozanov, who contributed one each. Daniel Mannella made 33 saves for the Fury on 36 shots. Whitby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Dalton Ewing recorded 25 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
