Buffalo outlasts Wellington, 4-3

The game between the Buffalo Jr. Sabres and the Wellington Dukes was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Buffalo emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Zach Evancho secured the win for the Jr. Sabres with a goal in the third period.

Buffalo got the win behind a great game by Evancho, who had two goals and one assist. Evancho scored the first of his two goals at 1:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. Christopher Berger assisted on the tally. Evancho's next tally made the score 4-3 Buffalo with 4:55 left in the third period.

The Jr. Sabres forced Wellington goalie Olivier Lafreniere to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Others who scored for Buffalo included Colton McKenna and David Baskerville, who scored one goal each. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Matthew Buchbinder, Christian Zimmerman, and Ryan Wheeler, who contributed one each.

The Dukes stifled Buffalo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Sabres were unable to stop Wellington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dukes eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Wellington was led by Dylan Mascarin, who had two goals and one assist. Mascarin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. A slashing penalty on Wilson Vershay had put the Dukes on the power play. Justin Bean provided the assist. Mascarin's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Buffalo with 7:49 left in the second period. Wellington had taken the advantage when Buffalo's Evan Bennett got sent off for roughing. Nicolas Mucci picked up the assist. Tyler Burnie also scored for Wellington.

Tucker Weppner made 33 saves for the Jr. Sabres on 36 shots. Buffalo incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Dukes' Lafreniere stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Wellington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
