Huge game by Taylor boosts Whitby over Cobourg, 7-6

The Whitby Fury's Ryan Taylor had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 7-6 win over the Cobourg Cougars.

Taylor's tallies came at 8:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and 15:56 into the third to make the score 7-6 Whitby.

Whitby led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Fury's Zach Viminitz scored at 18:19 in the first period to put Whitby up 4-1.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:19 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Cobourg was unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Fury found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Whitby has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Whitby additionally got points from Brock Welsh, who also registered one goal and two assists and Scott Kirton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Nik Coric as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Greg Allen, Zack Fisher, Ryan Porter, Ian McKinnon, and Dallas Baird, who contributed one each.

The Cougars' offense rang up 46 shots on the Fury's net. Cobourg outdid its season average for goals scored. The Cougars average 3.4 goals per game.

Cobourg was helped by Ryan Casselman, who tallied one goal. Casselman scored on the power play 40 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. Brennan Roy picked up the assist. Cobourg also got points from Kallen McFarland, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Russell Nowry, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cobourg also had goals scored by Reade MacInnis, Matt Goeree, and Brenden Locke, who each put in one. More assists for Cobourg came via Josh Hopkin, Liam Grande, Rory Milne, Mac Lowry, and Theo Lewis, who each chipped in one.

Daniel Mannella recorded 40 saves for Whitby. The Fury totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and McKinnon was ejected from the game. The Cougars' Stefano Durante stopped 25 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Cobourg totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play. For the Cougars, Patrick MacDonald was ejected from the game.
