The Newmarket Hurricanes and the Whitby Fury skate to 4-4 (OT) tie

Whitby rebounded from a three-goal deficit to tie Newmarket,.

The Hurricanes were helped by Todd Winder, who grabbed one goal. Winder scored 2:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Jonathan Colley picked up the assist. Newmarket also got points from Colley, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Cole Thiessen and Steve Mariani, who each put in one. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Mitchell Duggan, Alex Ierullo, and Ryan Young, who each chipped in one and Nick Kalpousos and Mark Rozanov, who contributed two each.

The Fury's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Whitby had been spending in the box. The Fury's offense rang up 36 shots on Newmarket's net.

Whitby was helped by Ryan Taylor, who racked up one goal. Taylor scored 7:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Greg Allen assisted on the tally. Whitby also had goals scored by Zach Viminitz, Steven Elliott, and Zack Fisher, who scored one goal each. More assists for Whitby came via Ryan Sarris, Rylee McKinnon, and Dallas Baird, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' Connor Ryckman stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Newmarket incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Daniel Mannella rejected 19 shots on goal for the Fury. Whitby registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jonathan OHara was ejected from the game.
