Kingston uses early goal to top Pickering, 3-1

The Kingston Voyageurs took the lead against the Pickering Panthers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 5:55 into the first period by Reid Russell proved to be the game winner, and powered Kingston to the victory. Anthony Rinaldi picked up the assist.

Connor Bebb was all over the ice for the Voyageurs, as he tallied two goals in the win. Bebb's tallies came at 14:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kingston and 19:46 into the third to make the score 3-1 Kingston.

Pickering was stymied by Kingston's netminder Zach Springer, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Springer managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.27 prior to the game.

The Voyageurs stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kingston forced Pickering goalie Troy Paquette to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Voyageurs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Kingston finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Kingston also got points from Russell, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Kingston received assists from Zachary Emelifeonwu, Jakob Brahaney, and Jack Zielinski, who contributed one each.

The Panthers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Pickering was led by John Hudgin, who scored the team's only goal. Hudgin scored 14:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. Tiger McDonald provided the assist.

The Panthers' Paquette stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Pickering incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Panthers, Kyle Gentles was ejected from the game.
