Bruce's big game bests Pickering in 7-0 Markham win

The Markham Royals' Tyson Bruce had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 7-0 win over the Pickering Panthers.

Bruce scored 14:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Markham. Marco Azzano picked up the assist. Bruce dished an assist on Aaron Spivak's goal that made the score 3-0 Markham at 1:19 into the second period. He then added assists on Azzano's goal at 16:51 into the second and on Azzano's goal at 6:04 into the third.

Marcus Semiao spearheaded the defensive effort for Markham, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 32 saves for the shutout. Semiao managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.5 prior to the game.

The Royals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Markham's defensive play was more effective than usual against Pickering. The Royals average 2.6 goals allowed per game. Markham outdid its season average for goals scored. The Royals average 3.7 goals per game. Markham could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Markham also got points from Hudson Michaelis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Azzano, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Trevor Abbot also scored for Markham. Other players who recorded assists for Markham were Shawn Tessier, Jason OConnor, Lucas Condotta, Rylee St. Onge, and Nick Thomakos, who each chipped in one and Brendan Valko and Jeff Joynt, who contributed two each.

The Panthers stifled the Royals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pickering was held below its usual level of production. The Panthers put an average of 3.0 pucks into the net per game. Pickering forced Markham goalie Semiao to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Royals registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Paul Giusti rejected 22 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
