Markham rolls over Toronto Jr. Canadiens, 5-2Scotiabank Pond One Sat, Nov 28, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Markham Royals had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens. Markham was led by Jeff Joynt, who registered one goal. Joynt scored 15:50 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Markham. Trevor Abbot assisted on the tally. In a losing effort, Toronto Jr. Canadiens was paced by Nicholas Jarzabek, who grabbed two goals. Jarzabek scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Markham. The Junior Canadiens earned a power play opportunity when Marco Azzano was put in the box for slashing. David Zeppieri picked up the assist. Jarzabek's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Markham with 11:38 left in the second period. Toronto Jr. Canadiens had gained a power play chance when Azzano was whistled for high sticking. Justin Maiolino provided the assist. The Royals' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Markham surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Royals' offense rang up 38 shots on the Junior Canadiens' net. Markham capitalized on Toronto Jr. Canadiens' penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage. Markham also got points from Azzano, who also had one goal and one assist. Rylee St. Onge also scored for Markham. Other players who recorded assists for Markham were Matthew Dunlop, Sean Perichak, Aaron Spivak, and Marcus Semiao, who contributed one each and Lucas Condotta and Tyson Bruce, who each chipped in two. The Junior Canadiens kept the Royals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Semiao made 32 saves on 34 shots. More assists for Toronto Jr. Canadiens came via Cody Symonds and Sal Filice, who contributed one each. For Markham, Azzano was ejected from the game. Brendan Bonello rejected 33 shots on goal for Toronto Jr. Canadiens. The Junior Canadiens incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
