Wellington beats Cobourg 3-0 as Lafreniere gains shutout

Olivier Lafreniere recorded a shutout against the Cobourg Cougars as the Wellington Dukes picked up a 3-0 win.

Wellington was led by Luc Brown, who tallied one goal. Brown scored on the power play 3:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. The Dukes had taken the advantage when Cobourg's Ryan OGrady got sent off for high sticking. Dylan Mascarin picked up the assist.

Wellington excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Dukes was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Wellington gives up 2.8 goals on average per game. The Cougars were unable to stop the Dukes from sending pucks towards the net, and Wellington eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Wellington additionally got points from Jacob Panetta, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Colin Doyle also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Shaw Boomhower and Ben Sokay, who each chipped in one.

Cobourg was held below its usual level of production. The Cougars average 3.6 goals per game. Cobourg forced the Dukes goalie Lafreniere to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Lafreniere recorded 40 saves for Wellington. The Dukes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Stefano Durante rejected 33 shots on goal for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
