Oakville squeaks by Markham, 5-3

The Oakville Blades and the Markham Royals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Oakville made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jackson Bales at 16:34 of the third period.

Josh Kosack had a great game for the Blades, netting two goals. Kosack's tallies came on the power play at 9:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Oakville and 18:18 into the third to make the score 5-3 Oakville.

Oakville's penalty kill excelled, as the Blades gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Oakville stifled Markham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blades forced the Royals goalie Nathan Colitto to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Oakville additionally got points from Bryce Misley, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Oakville received assists from Ryan Foss, Brayden Sampson, and Paul Butler, who each chipped in one and Drew Worrad, Eric Holland, and Ryan Garvey, who contributed two each.

Oakville was unable to stop Markham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Royals eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Markham's penalty kill unit could not stop the Blades' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

The Royals were helped by Nick Thomakos, who registered one goal and one assist. Thomakos scored 13:39 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Markham. Tyson Bruce picked up the assist. Markham also got points from Aaron Spivak, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Markham also got a goal from Brendan Valko as well. More assists for Markham came via Sean Perichak and Marco Azzano, who each chipped in one.

Brendan McGlynn made 41 saves for Oakville on 44 shots. The Blades incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Markham's Colitto stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Royals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
