Mississauga beats Burlington 7-5 after comeback scare

The Mississauga Chargers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Burlington Cougars on the way to a 7-5 win.

Mississauga took a 7-4 lead during the third period, only to have Burlington storm back on a Matt Holmes goal 19:06 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Thomas Lattavo was all over the ice for the Chargers, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Lattavo scored the first of his two goals at 16:07 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Mississauga. Brandon Yeamans assisted on the tally. Lattavo's next tally made the score 6-4 Mississauga with 2:56 left in the third period. Mississauga was on a disadvantage when Yeamans went off the ice for interference. Daniel DeSousa provided the assist.

The Cougars were unable to stop the Chargers from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississauga eventually piled up 54 shots on goal. The Chargers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Mississauga averages 2.5 goals per game.

Mississauga additionally got points from Daniel Pereira, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Stefano Alonzi, who also registered two goals and two assists, and Scott Docherty, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Steve Mariani also scored for Mississauga. More assists for Mississauga came via Michael Dischiavi and Aidan Parker, who each chipped in one.

Burlington's offense rang up 45 shots on the Chargers' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Burlington also had goals scored by Nicholas Holt, Jordan Peacock, Ben Morris, and Greg Allen, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Tyler Riter, who had two and Nathan Gomes, Chris Cobham, Austin Washkurak, and Dante Felicetti, who contributed one each.

Tyler Richardson recorded 40 saves for Mississauga. The Chargers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Austin Washkurak made 47 saves for the Cougars on 53 shots. Burlington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
