Wellington rips Mississauga, 5-1

The Wellington Dukes had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Mississauga Chargers.

Ben Sokay had a great game for Wellington, netting two goals. Sokay scored short handed at 19:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellington and again while on the power play 9:16 into the third to make the score 5-0 Wellington.

The Dukes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Wellington's offense rang up 49 shots on Mississauga's net. The defensemen of the Dukes were also effective in the Chargers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Wellington also got points from Jacob Panetta, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Wellington also got a goal from Colin Doyle as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Shaw Boomhower, who had one, Luc Brown, who had four, and Justin Bean and Dylan Mascarin, who contributed two each.

Mississauga's penalty kill unit could not stop Wellington's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Anthony Popovich recorded 19 saves for the Dukes. Wellington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Chargers' Tyler Richardson stopped 44 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Mississauga incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
