Beretta nets hat trick, leads St. Michaels to 6-4 win over Pickering

Thomas Beretta netted a hat trick to lead the St. Michaels Buzzers over the Pickering Panthers, 6-4.

Beretta's first goal came 6:17 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:51 into the third and at 17:21 into the third.

St. Michaels led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Buzzers' Sean Kohler scored at 9:51 in the first period to put St. Michaels up 4-0.

The Buzzers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. St. Michaels has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

St. Michaels additionally got points from Noah Jordan, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. St. Michaels also got a goal from Cameron Searles as well. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from A.J. Dorazio, who had three and Sam Hunter, Luke Branco, Mark Paolini, Colton Trumbla, Michael Andlauer, and Cameron Wright, who contributed one each.

Pickering forced Buzzers' goaltenders to work without much rest, firing 32 shots and forcing 28 saves. Jacob McGrath made 14 stops and Mark Manolescu made 14. The Panthers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Pickering ended up below its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Panthers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Pickering was led by Chris Sekelyk, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Sekelyk scored 8:18 into the second period to make the score 4-3 St. Michaels. Tomas Azzano assisted on the tally. Pickering also got points from Owen Scuralli, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pickering included Kyler Challis and Blake Coffey, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pickering came via Doug Carter, who had two and Mackenzie Heber, John Hudgin, and Justin Bennett, who each chipped in one.

The Buzzers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. St. Michaels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lucas Breault was ejected from the game. Graham Schropp took the loss and made 16 saves before being replaced by Mathew Woroniuk who made seven saves. The Panthers registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
