Zielinski lifts Kingston over Markham, 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by David Richer helped the Kingston Voyageurs defeat the Markham Royals, 4-1.

Jack Zielinski had two goals to lead Kingston to victory. Zielinski found the back of the net on the power play 39 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kingston and again while 8:54 into the second to make the score 3-0 Kingston.

The Voyageurs forced Royals' netminders to work without much rest, getting 36 shots and forcing 32 saves. Nathan Colitto made 17 stops and Eric Pitcher made 15. Kingston stifled Markham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Voyageurs got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Kingston's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Voyageurs finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Kingston also got points from Connor Bebb, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Kingston also got a goal from Colin Tonge as well. In addition, Kingston received assists from Jacob Hanlon, who had two and Zachary Emelifeonwu, Cole Langfield, Anthony Rinaldi, and Ian Harris, who contributed one each.

The Royals' offense operated below their season average. Markham puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Royals forced Kingston goalie Richer to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Markham was led by Jeff Joynt, who scored the team's only goal. Joynt scored 2:45 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Kingston. Rylee St. Onge picked up the assist.

The Voyageurs' Richer stopped 50 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Kingston registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Voyageurs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mason Corliss was ejected from the game. The Royals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Markham, Hudson Michaelis was ejected from the game.
