Whitby blows out Pickering, 7-1Iroquois - Rink#1 Sun, Nov 15, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Whitby Fury were firing on all cylinders against the Pickering Panthers, and when the final buzzer sounded Fury emerged with a 7-1 win. Whitby was led by goalie Jordon White, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of White will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.29. The Fury got the win behind a great game by Scott Kirton, who had two goals and one assist. Kirton scored the first of his two goals short handed at 6:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. A slashing call on Ryan Sarris put Whitby on the penalty kill. Kirton's next tally short handed made the score 4-0 Whitby with 8:00 left in the second period. The Fury played down a man on Justin Brand's slashing. Jeffrey Gauld picked up the assist. Whitby stifled Pickering's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Fury forced the Panthers goalie Mathew Woroniuk to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Whitby found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Fury average 3.1 goals per contest. Whitby additionally got points from Nik Coric, who also had one goal and one assist and Ryan Taylor, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Whitby included Zach Viminitz, Jacob Durham, and Brock Welsh, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Jonathan OHara, who had three and Luke Keenan and Ryan Heeps, who contributed one each. Pickering's offense operated below its season average. The Panthers average 3.3 goals per game. Pickering's offense rang up 36 shots on Whitby's net. Owen Scuralli also scored for Pickering. More assists for Pickering came via Tiger McDonald, who had one. The Fury incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Woroniuk rejected 30 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Panthers, Dallas Carter was ejected from the game.
