Mississauga rips Milton, 6-3

The Mississauga Chargers had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Milton Icehawks.

Mississauga got the win with help from a great game by Steve Mariani, who had two goals and one assist. Mariani scored the first of his two goals at 6:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mississauga. Mariani's next tally made the score 3-2 Mississauga with 10:10 left in the first period. Brandon Yeamans picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:11 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Chargers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Milton was unable to stop Mississauga from sending pucks towards the net, and the Chargers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Mississauga's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Chargers average 2.7 goals per contest.

Mississauga additionally got points from Stefano Alonzi, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Mississauga also had goals scored by Scott Docherty and Aidan Parker, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mississauga were Brady Grenon and Thomas Lattavo, who contributed one each.

The Icehawks' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Milton surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Icehawks forced Mississauga goalie Andrew Cipollone to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The defensemen of Milton were also effective in the Chargers' zone, and came away with two goals.

The Icehawks were led by Troy Taylor, who finished with one goal and one assist. Taylor scored 4:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Milton. Chris Cobham assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Milton included Brad Lindsay and Joseph Teofilo, who each put in one. More assists for Milton came via Brett Markham, Sean Perichak, and Brandon Sabatini, who each chipped in one.

Cipollone recorded 31 saves for Mississauga. The Chargers totaled 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Mississauga ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyler Matthews was ejected from the game. Marcus Semiao made 34 saves for Milton on 40 shots. For the Icehawks, Anthony Baxter was ejected from the game.
