Whitby outlasts Aurora, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Whitby Fury escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Aurora Tigers.

Whitby gained the winning advantage on a goal by Zach Viminitz 19:33 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Fury were sparked by Viminitz, who registered one goal.

Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Aurora to score on any of its five power plays. The Tigers were unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Whitby included Steven Elliott and Jeffrey Gauld, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Kevin Dimagno, who had one.

Aurora was helped by Austin Gerhart, who tallied one goal. Gerhart scored 7:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matthew Bernard provided the assist. Liam Neuman also scored for Aurora. More assists for Aurora came via Alex Boudreau, who had one.

The Fury's Daniel Mannella stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Whitby incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Alex Brooks-Potts made 33 saves for the Tigers on 36 shots. Aurora incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
