Cobourg beats Pickering 4-3 after comeback scare

The Pickering Panthers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Cobourg Cougars held on for a 4-3 victory.

Cobourg took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Pickering storm back on a Owen Scuralli goal 17:27 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Cobourg gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Cougars were helped by Rory Milne, who had one goal. Milne scored 15:24 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Cobourg. Russell Nowry assisted on the tally. Cobourg also had goals scored by Connor Inger, Patrick MacDonald, and Theo Lewis, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Matthew Bumstead, who had two and Josh Argier and Brennan Roy, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers were led by Chris Sekelyk, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Sekelyk scored on the power play 17:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Pickering earned a power play opportunity when Lewis was put in the box for hooking. Tiger McDonald picked up the assist. Tomas Azzano also scored for Pickering. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were John Hudgin, Davis Kuksis, and Kyler Challis, who contributed one each.

Tyler Lewis rejected 26 shots on goal for Cobourg. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Panthers' Graham Schropp stopped 15 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Pickering incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
