North York survives Wellington comeback, wins 8-6

The North York Rangers came close to giving away a five-goal lead to the Wellington Dukes, but did just enough to escape with an 8-6 victory.

North York led by five goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Rangers' Keegan Blasby scored on the power play at 1:51 in the third period to put North York up 7-2.

Fedor Rudakov and Blasby provided the spark for the Rangers, combining for three goals and three assists. Rudakov racked up one goal and three assists and Blasby also added two goals.

North York's offense rang up 32 shots on Wellington's net. The Rangers outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, North York averages 3.2 goals per contest. The defensemen of the Rangers were also effective in the Dukes' zone, and came away with two goals.

North York additionally got points from Jeremy Szabo, who also registered one goal and one assist and Nick Campoli, who also tallied one goal and one assist. North York also got a goal from Nick Zanette as well. In addition, North York received assists from Joshua Dame, Jonathan Hampton, Ryan Takamatsu, and Luke Hincenbergs, who contributed one each and Tyler Currie, Ryan Hunt, and Louis Kereakou, who each chipped in two.

Wellington kept North York's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jett Alexander made 42 saves on 48 shots. The Dukes surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Wellington has scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Dukes were helped by Brodie Butt, who had two goals and one assist. Butt scored the first of his two goals at 12:36 into the third period to make the score 7-5 North York. Jacob Panetta picked up the assist. Butt's next tally made the score 7-6 North York with 3:08 left in the third period. Luc Brown assisted on the tally. Wellington also got points from Brown, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Wellington also had goals scored by Chase St Aubin and Dylan Mascarin, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wellington came via Justin Bean, who had one and Justynn Steven and Ben Sokay, who each chipped in two.

The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Anthony Popovich made 24 saves for Wellington on 31 shots. The Dukes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
