Valko's big game bests Kingston in 7-4 Markham win

The Markham Royals' Brendan Valko had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-4 win over the Kingston Voyageurs.

Valko scored at 5:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Markham and again while 6:50 into the second to make the score 2-2.

Markham's offense rang up 34 shots on Kingston's net. The Royals bested their season scoring average. This season, Markham averages 3.4 goals per contest. The Royals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Markham additionally got points from Matthew Dunlop, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Aaron Spivak, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Hudson Michaelis, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jeff Joynt also scored for Markham. In addition, Markham received assists from Tyson Bruce, who had three and Lucas Condotta, Rylee St. Onge, and Marco Azzano, who each chipped in one.

Markham was unable to stop the Voyageurs from sending pucks towards the net, and Kingston eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Voyageurs were led by Anthony Rinaldi, who had one goal and two assists. Rinaldi scored 19:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. Reid Russell picked up the assist. Others who scored for Kingston included Danny Bosio, Connor Bebb, and Brandon Nadeau, who each put in one. More assists for Kingston came via Zachary Emelifeonwu and Jack Zielinski, who contributed two each.

The Royals' Nathan Colitto stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Markham registered two goals on five power play opportunities. David Richer made 27 saves for Kingston on 33 shots. The Voyageurs incurred 52 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Kingston, Rinaldi and Cole Beckstead were ejected from the contest.
