Roberts leads Stouffville over Cobourg, 5-2

Behind a great game by Spencer Roberts, who had one goal and two assists, the Stouffville Spirit defeated the Cobourg Cougars, 5-2.

Roberts got on the board by slotting home a goal 12:06 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Stouffville. Jack Varga picked up the assist. Roberts dished an assist on Sam Hu's goal that made the score 1-0 Stouffville at 8:35 into the second period. He added another helper on Connor Evans's goal that made the score 2-0 Stouffville at 5:06 into the third period.

Stouffville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cobourg to score on any of its four power plays. The Spirit found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Stouffville averages 2.6 goals per contest.

Stouffville additionally got points from Hu, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stouffville also had goals scored by Nathan Hudgin and Stefan Palatsidis, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Justin Mahabir, Kyle Thomas, and Ryan DaSilva, who contributed one each.

The Cougars stifled the Spirit's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Cobourg was helped by Mac Lowry, who tallied one goal. Lowry scored 6:38 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Josh Argier also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Brennan Roy, who had one.

Aaron Taylor made 26 saves for Stouffville on 28 shots. The Spirit incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Stouffville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zachary Roberts was ejected from the game. Stefano Durante recorded 25 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
