Mannella stymies Newmarket, Whitby wins 2-1

The Whitby Fury relied on the sparkling performance of Daniel Mannella in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Whitby was paced by Jeffrey Gauld, who registered one goal. Gauld scored 6:12 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Steven Elliott picked up the assist.

The Fury kept Newmarket's goalie busy throughout the game, and Connor Ryckman made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Whitby also got a goal from Nik Coric as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jacob Durham and Justin Brand, who contributed one each.

The Hurricanes were led by Dallas Baird, who scored the team's only goal. Baird scored on the power play 1:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Newmarket had gotten the advantage when Whitby's Ryan Sarris was sent off for warm up violation. Ryan Young provided the assist.

Mannella rejected 29 shots on goal for the Fury. Whitby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Ulett was ejected from the game. The Hurricanes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
