Cobourg rolls over Wellington, 5-1

The Cobourg Cougars had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Wellington Dukes.

Cobourg got the win on the strength of a great game by Brennan Roy, who had one goal and two assists. Roy scored on the power play 19:05 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cobourg. A head contact penalty on Carter Allen had put the Cougars on the power play. Ryan OGrady assisted on the tally.

Wellington's eight penalties came back to haunt it, as the Dukes let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Cobourg stifled Wellington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars forced the Dukes goalie Olivier Lafreniere to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Cobourg also got points from Russell Nowry, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brenden Locke also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Matt Watson and Theo Lewis, who contributed one each.

Wellington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Dukes were led by Brodie Maracle, who scored the team's only goal. Maracle scored 16:25 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. Austin Labelle picked up the assist.

Stefano Durante made 19 saves for Cobourg on 20 shots. The Cougars incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wellington's Lafreniere stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Dukes registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
