Stouffville shrugs off penalties, upends Wellington, 2-0Wellington CC Fri, Oct 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit's penalty kill was superb, as Stouffville survived multiple penalties to beat the Wellington Dukes, 2-0. The Spirit were paced by Jack Varga, who racked up one goal. Varga scored 18:28 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Stouffville. Nathan Hudgin provided the assist. Stouffville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. James Mense-Dietrich also scored for Stouffville. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Robert Clark and Aaron Taylor, who each chipped in one. Wellington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Stouffville power plays. The Dukes' offense operated below their season average. Wellington averages 3.1 goals per game. Taylor rejected 24 shots on goal for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Anthony Popovich recorded 26 saves for the Dukes. Wellington incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. |
