Newmarket outlasts Orangeville, 3-2

The Newmarket Hurricanes and the Orangeville Flyers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Newmarket made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

The Hurricanes gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ryan Young 6:35 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Newmarket was paced by Young, who registered one goal.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Orangeville power plays.

Others who scored for Newmarket included Alex Ierullo and Aidan Comparelli, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Max Routledge, Christian Dedonato, Ryan Shaw, Marco Bozzo, Marty Lawlor, and Jeff Schrattner, who contributed one each.

Orangeville was helped by Zack Lyons, who grabbed one goal. Lyons scored 14:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. James Ranson assisted on the tally. Orangeville also got a goal from Connor Stack as well. In addition, Orangeville received assists from James McLaughlin and Callum Cusinato, who each chipped in one.

Connor Ryckman made 27 saves for Newmarket on 29 shots. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nicholas Latinovich recorded 23 saves for the Flyers. Orangeville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
