Bruce's hat trick boosts Markham over Whitby, 7-2

Tyson Bruce netted a hat trick to lead the Markham Royals over the Whitby Fury, 7-2.

Bruce's first goal came 4:17 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:19 into the first and at 11:31 into the third.

Markham forced Whitby's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Jordon White made 16 stops and Austin Cain made 24. The Royals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Whitby power plays. Markham bested its season scoring average. The Royals average 3.7 goals per game.

Markham additionally got points from Matthew Dunlop, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Markham also got a goal from Lucas Condotta as well. In addition, Markham received assists from Jeff Joynt, Cole Hepler, Nick Thomakos, Hudson Michaelis, and Joel Knight, who each chipped in one and Brendan Valko and Aaron Spivak, who contributed three each.

Markham was unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Fury could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Whitby was led by Nik Coric, who grabbed one goal. Coric scored 2:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Jacob Durham assisted on the tally. Ryan Heeps also scored for Whitby. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Zach Viminitz and Ryan Taylor, who each chipped in one.

Nathan Colitto rejected 32 shots on goal for the Royals. Markham incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
