Aurora downs Whitby, 5-2Iroquois - Rink#1 Sun, Sep 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Todd Winder registered one point to lead the Aurora Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the Whitby Fury. Aurora was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with six minors and one major totalling 27 minutes. The Tigers fell short of the 37.0 minutes average penalties per game. Aurora put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitby to score on any of its three power plays. The Tigers forced the Fury goalie Austin Cain to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Aurora surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Tigers average 2.8 goals per contest. Aurora also got points from Alex Formenton, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Liam Neuman, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Aurora included Daniel Mantenuto and Nolan Dunn, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were David Pearce and James Thomson, who each chipped in one. Whitby excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Aurora was unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Fury could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game. Whitby was helped by Kevin Dimagno, who grabbed one goal. Dimagno scored 14:24 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Nik Coric picked up the assist. Justin Allen also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Zach Viminitz, Justin Brand, and Ryan Heeps, who contributed one each. The Tigers' Alex Brooks-Potts stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Aurora ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jacob Piltzmaker was ejected from the game. Cain rejected 29 shots on goal for the Fury.
