Newmarket falls to Markham in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Markham Centennial Centre Sun, Sep 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Markham Royals pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes on a clutch goal by Joel Knight. Markham was led by Knight, who had one goal. Knight scored 53 seconds into to make the score 3-2 Markham. Aaron Spivak provided the assist. The Royals forced Newmarket goalie Connor Ryckman to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Markham struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Hurricanes to score two power play goals on three chances. Markham also got points from Brendan Valko, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Markham also got a goal from Hudson Michaelis as well. In addition, Markham received assists from Matthew Dunlop, who had one. The Royals were unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Newmarket was helped by Dallas Baird, who registered one goal and one assist. Baird scored on the power play 9:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Michaelis was whistled for tripping. Jonathan Colley picked up the assist. Newmarket additionally got points from Adam Smith, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Nathan Colitto made 33 saves for Markham on 35 shots. The Royals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ryckman recorded 42 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
