Kingston penalty kill dominates in 3-1 defeat of Wellington

The Wellington Dukes failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Kingston Voyageurs shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

Kingston was sparked by Anthony Rinaldi, who racked up one goal. Rinaldi scored 2:51 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. Jacob Hanlon picked up the assist.

The Voyageurs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kingston also had goals scored by Danny Bosio and Connor Cobbold, who scored one goal each. More assists for Kingston came via Josh Hardiman, Colin Tonge, and Mason Corliss, who contributed one each.

Wellington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kingston to score on any of its three power plays. The Dukes were held below their usual level of production. Wellington averages 3.1 goals per game.

The Dukes were led by Dylan Mascarin, who scored the team's only goal. Mascarin scored on the power play 7:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Wellington earned a power play opportunity when Nick Schantz was put in the box for hooking. Jake Falcao assisted on the tally.

David Poirier recorded 19 saves for the Voyageurs. The Dukes' Olivier Lafreniere stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Wellington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
