GAME RECAP

Aurora beats Markham 2-1 after comeback scare

Aurora Community Centre    Sat, Nov 07, 2015

The Aurora Tigers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Markham Royals on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Austin Gerhart put Aurora up 2-0 in the second period, but Markham pulled to within one on Lucas Condotta's tally 19:40 into the third period.

Gerhart had a great game for the Tigers, netting two goals.

The Royals were stymied by Aurora's netminder Alex Brooks-Potts, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Brooks-Potts managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.54 prior to the game.

The Tigers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Markham to score on any of its three power plays. Aurora forced the Royals goalie Nathan Colitto to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

More assists for Aurora came via Kyle Locke, Daniel Mantenuto, James Thomson, and Ryan Shaw, who each chipped in one.

Markham did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Royals put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, Markham received assists from Aaron Spivak and Marco Azzano, who contributed one each.

The Tigers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Colitto recorded 40 saves for Markham. The Royals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
