Burlington blows out Wellington, 7-2

The Burlington Cougars had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Wellington Dukes.

Daniel Volpe had a great game for Burlington, netting two goals. Volpe scored on the power play at 11:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington and again while on the power play 11:37 into the first to make the score 2-0 Burlington.

Wellington was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Cougars were able to score five times while on the power play.

Burlington excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Cougars kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Washkurak made 28 saves on 35 shots. Burlington's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Cougars average 4.3 goals per contest.

Burlington also got points from Jordan Peacock, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Jack Jeffers, who also had one goal and two assists. Burlington also had goals scored by Mike Faliero and Brady Cranwell, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Willy Paul, who had three and Andrew Lee, Nicholas Holt, Zac Herrmann, David Thomson, David Kiss, Nathan Gomes, and Samuel Gagnon, who each chipped in one.

Wellington was helped by Aiden Girduckis, who racked up one goal. Girduckis scored 15:56 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Burlington. Nick Devito provided the assist. Tyler Burnie also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Jake Falcao, who had one.

Andrew Lee made 21 saves for Burlington on 23 shots. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Dukes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
